The Houston Zoo

The Houston Zoo- Club HS– Updated 8/10/2016

Come join the herd! This club is just for you (and your family!) When you join Club H.S., the entire family will discover the natural world through fun adventures all year long. From front-of-scenes tours to all new hands-on experiments, the excitement and learning never stop!

Included in the Club H.S. membership:

  • Admission to the four (4) Home School Days at the Houston Zoo during the 2016-2017 school year (2 in the fall semester; 2 in the spring semester)
  • Eligibility to apply for the “Students as Field Researchers Day”, a program exclusive to Club H.S. members
  • A special gift that is just for Club H.S. members!

Remember: Club H.S. is for the entire family. Therefore, everyone must purchase a membership to join in on the fun!

The Health Museum

Includes hands-on experiments and dissections, a field trip to the Texas Medical Center, scientific dessert activities and more. Contact homeschool@thehealthmuseum.org or 713-337-8450 for questions and to set up a private camp.

Museum of Fine Arts Houston

The Museum offers specially designed workshops for the entire homeschool family. Each workshop includes an interactive gallery tour with hands-on activities and group discussions, followed by an opportunity to create a related art project. This program lets adults and children work together. Families also receive materials to extend the lesson at home.

Be sure to preregister, as capacity is limited. Available only to homeschool families with children ages 4 and older. The Museum asks that there be one adult per three children.

Downtown Aquarium

August 30, 2016 & November, 18 2016: Homeschool Day is a special day for homeschooled children to learn more about our animals and explore the wonders of the aquatic world (4 years to 18 years old). Pre-registration required for attendance. (Date Subject to Change)

Marine Biologist for the Day

See if you have what it takes to become a Marine Biologist! Spend a day behind the scenes where all the scientific action happens. Experience close encounters with exotic species from the deep sea to shallow reef and everywhere in between. You’ll even get to dissect a squid! Program includes guided tour, biologist dive show, squid dissection, animal feedings and much more! T-shirts & lunch included.

Cost: $55 per person (plus tax)
Ages: 6-12

Zoologist for the Day

Tigers at an aquarium? There are more than just fish here at the Downtown Aquarium. Examine our impressive species of birds, reptiles, amphibians and, of course, the white tigers. Spend your day learning how we handle and train our creatures that live outside the ocean. Interact with live animals, build animal enrichment toys, talk with tiger and bird keepers and much more! T-shirts & lunch included.

Cost: $55 per person (plus tax)
Ages: 6-12

Wild Dreams Overnight

You’ve seen our white tigers of the Maharaja’s Temple… now you can learn about their cousins in the wild! Explore the rainforests of the world and learn about conservation through the eyes of a tiger. Get ready to stay up late, learn all about tigers, go on a scavenger hunt, and sleep within inches of these awesome animals. Plus much more. Perfect for groups! Includes a snack, T-shirt and breakfast in the Aquarium Restaurant.

Cost: Daily: $65 per person (plus tax);1 complimentary adult with every 5 kids in a group.
Ages: 6 – 14 (activities most enjoyable for ages 7-13)
Time: 8pm – 9am

Space Center Houston

Experience space science through innovative, exclusive activities and special guest speakers during Home School Day at Space Center Houston.

This incredible event provides the opportunity for home-schooled families to learn about space exploration and engage in an unforgettable day of entertainment and education.

Meet a NASA astronaut and hear from NASA Johnson Space Center experts on a variety of topics including growing up home-schooled. Learn how NASA’s inventions and research have improved lives. Find out how science fiction principles apply to real-life science and technology. Test your hand at robotics and learn about recent industry developments. Get hands-on in our interactive Pop-Up Labs where you can see demonstrations of Newton’s Third Law of Motion, make a small bulb light up, discover the destructive force of meteors and so much more!

Home School Day registration begins in August. Follow Space Center Houston on Facebook or check back for updates on specific activities and speakers.

Home School Day Rates:

  • Admission & All-Day Ride wristband for $14.99 plus tax per person
  • Admission Walk-On wristband for $10.00 plus tax per person

You will also have an opportunity to experience one of our educational tours.  Tours last approximately 20-30 minutes per tour.

  • History Tours- 1pm & 3pm
  • Math, Science & Physics Tours-12pm & 2pm

The History Tour will discuss the history of the Pleasure Pier and its impact on the area.

The Math, Science & Physics Tour will discuss the impact and application of math, science and physics on the Pleasure Pier as well as the Amusement Industry. A workbook is given to each student from grades 3rd-12th with activities to focus on specific skills and interesting questions about the rides and other features throughout the property. Our activities incorporate mathematics and science to enhance each students understanding and knowledge of the subjects.
